Come Meet BALOO!

That’s right; BALOO is coming to the Southern Sky District! Whether you’re an experienced camper or an outdoor novice, BALOO has something to offer you! Don’t miss this exciting event!

What is BALOO?

BALOO stands for Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation. It’s designed to introduce Cub Scout leaders to the newly expanded opportunities for pack overnight camping.

This is an energetic training that will cover everything you need to know to plan and run a pack overnighter. It’s more than just camping-it includes ideas for outdoor activities, games and ceremonies; information on selecting and using camping equipment; how to run a campfire program; and hands-on Cub Scout cooking demonstrations! In short, everything you need to know to make your pack overnighter a fun, successful event!

Why do I need to meet BALOO?

BSA has made a number of changes to the camping policy for Tigers, Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts. Besides participating in council camps (day camp, resident camp), packs may now organize overnight campouts for boys and their families. Adults leading a pack overnighter must attend BALOO training in order to be issued a tour permit. (Cub Scout/Webelos Scout Outdoor Program Guidelines 13-631)

Where and when can I meet BALOO?

BALOO will be in town on the Saturdays listed below. Check here often to find out when he will be back for another visit.

Wow! How do I sign up?

Just fill out and submit the following form. We will put you on the waiting list and notify when BALOO will be back in town.

It’s very important that BALOO receives your registration in advance so he can prepare the correct number of meals and materials for everyone involved.

Southern Sky typically offers Outdoor Webelos Leader (OWL) training and BALOO training in a combined day or single overnight. BALOO is the first part of the training day, then participants can stay to complete OWL training. We encourage leaders to stay for the entire OWL course if they are leading Wolf or Bear dens, in preparation for the Webelos schedule. If leaders have already attended BALOO within the past two years, they may attend the rest of OWL training for $10.
